9/23/2023 0 Comments Trails of signal mountain![]() The mountain is beautiful and the lake is wonderful. There are so many wonderful adventures that can spur from the Rainbow Lake trail. We have always stayed on the trail, but maybe one day we will follow the creek down a little ways! The lake drains out through Middle Creek and runs down the mountain. It is a popular day trip for many Chattanoogans, and there is no reason you shouldn’t join them while you are in town! There was a couple swimming on Memorial Day, but the water was too cold for us! It is definitely on our to-do list. Now, we have never swam in the lake so I do not know how deep it is or any of that, but there are a lot of people who have swam up there. From the creek, you can see the water cascading over the dam. You are getting close! You can see the dam through the trees as you get closer and there are some little beat out paths where you can get to the dam and actually walk out onto it, again PLEASE BE SAFE! I don’t go very far out but we always grab a picture! (usually it involves a beagle)Īfter that we head on down to the creek, so that Suzie (that’s the beagle) can play in the creek. It is green as can be on the mountain, and it is truly breathtaking!Īfter a wonderful little hike in the woods, you begin to hear the water running in Middle Creek. Right now, there are honeysuckles in full bloom along with many other beautiful flowers. There are some rock formations along the way that are fun to play on, but please be careful and play responsibly! Shortly after this it does go down a grade. The hike is nice and easy, it is gravel and the hike to the dam is lovely! Here is a picture of the trail. Easy to find! Here is what Roots Rated has to say about it and how to get there. It is right around the corner on the left of the road. ![]() You can get there by following the signs to Signal Point, but not turning left at the Alexian Village. Haha! The parking lot is off of Ohio Ave. We always take our little beagle with us, so we simply hike to the lake and dam and back. You can hike down to the lake and then hop over the suspension bridge and head on to Edward’s Point, take a loop back to the Rainbow Lake trail, or pass the bridge and head up to Signal Point for a beautiful view! Rainbow lake is off of the Cumberland Trail. We do the hike as a short there and back trip, though there are loops as well. For our Memorial Day adventure, we headed up Signal Mountain here in our beautiful Chattanooga, TN! There are many trails on Signal Mountain, but one of our favorites is Rainbow Lake. ![]()
